Opening Credits.. Using Jely Babies!

In class we were given a task to make our own opening credits with Jelly babies, using the infomation we gained from our timeline. We made 4 shots using the sweets which shows how we would like how our opening credits to begin...

Shot 1:

This is the first shot of the opening credits which shows the directors name. From our findings we have learnt that haveing the diorectors name in the beginning and end of the opening credits is very imprtant because the director is one the important people in the film.

Shot 2:
In this shot we have the main characters name.This is our marquee characters which is why they have thier own slides to show that they are one the important people in the film.

Shot 3:

Here we have another character name.. She is one of our main charaters.

Shot 4:

This is the last shot we took which is of our film name finishing the opening credits

Opening Credits

In class we were given the task to observe the two trailers 'Se7en and Vertigo' one was more longer than the other, this was because 'Se7en' is a more modern day film whereas 'Vertigo' is more of an olden day film. However they both consisted of a simular theme in thier opening credits which included a: title, costume designers, actors, production companies, editors, scriptwriters, director of photography. What I have found out is that the Directors name is always metioned twice in the opening credits indicating that the director is more important.

In se7en we are introduced to several actors however they have been placed in order of who has the higher marquee name, and gradually as the credits go on the actors names that are less of a marquee name come on the screen but are joined by 3 other actor names, they do not have thier own screen indicating that they are less important int he film. Following this we are given the casting agents, co producers, Music producers ect..

On the other hand Vertigo included several more actors, listing around 6 actors at once. This opening sequence is longer than the film Se7en, this is because it had a lot more people to show also the screens stayed on much longer giving the audience an opportunity to appreciate whats on the screen. What was different about this opening credit was that a lot more people were listed allowing them to take credit for their contribution to the film which is something not often seen in more modern day films.


As you can see comparing the two timelines, Se7en has more screens whereas Vertigo has less screens with more names. This indicates that the person with thier own screen in the opening credits is a marquee name or is important to the film.

Breakdown Sheets for Shooting

               

Location

My location is at an empty park with a field and a huge forest behind it, Most of the action takes place in the forest so there would mostly be tree's and wildlife in the background. The location has a sense of safe and comfort because its a park but it also has that hint of danger because of the huge forest that surrounds it.

As you can see there is the field where the characters would be playing football and there is the start of the forest behind it where the ball gets lost.

Here is the entrance to the forest. You can see a small opening in which the character Liana tries to get through.

This is where all the action takes place.. The dramatic scene where the ghost shall appear. This is what it looks like once you enter the small opening.

3 Things I would like my Distributor to use ..

Posters:

I would like my distributor to spend money posters. I think that posters would appeal to my target audience because teenagers are attracted big images and bold colours. Also posters include its stars, theme and genre, distributors and designers have to make their film stand out, as there are so many other films in the market.                   

    

As you can see in this poster it has the stars of the show in big because thats what grabs the target audience, the fact that they are using Chackie Chan in a movie appeals to them because he is a big marque name. And so is Jaden Smith because he is part of the 'Smith' family automatically makes him have a big marque name. The way they are standing shows the theme of theme and genere of the film which is action.                                      

                                                                                  

Trailers:

I would also like my distributor to spend money on trailers. Trailers would appeal to my target audience because most teenagers spend their time on the internet and most of them use youtube where you can watch millions of videos. They also spend most of thier time watching T.V or other cinema movies and in the adverts the trailer would appear. The more intresting your trailer is the more the audience would want to come and see the whole film.

Media Advertising:

Lastly, I would like my distributor to spend money on media advertising because Televison media is mostly popular amongst the media advertising buisness, this is because the majority of the population watches tv. This would appeal to my target audience because most teenagers watch t.v and if the media advertising is good enough for them they would go and watch the film.

I have been given extra money for my distributor to use and I want them to spend it on two more things to market my film:

Merchandise:

I would like to spend money on merchandise for my film, things such as clothing, mugs, bracelets etc.. This will promote my film even more to my target audience. They will be given little ideas on what the film is and will get exited by the merchandise and would want to see the film even more.

A good example for good merchandise use is the disney films that they release. Disney sells the merchandise 2 or 3 weeks before they release the movie making thiuer target audience more exited to watch the movie when it does get released.

Website:

Another thing I would like to spend money on is the website for my film. This is because this will promote my film more and give my target audience all the infomation they need and want for thr film. This website may include many different things that may attract my target audience more such as back stage interviews, selling merchandise, links to facebook etc..

A good example of a good website is the twilight website. this website includes  many things such as detailed interviews on each charater, any news on the movie and quotes from the author.  

                            

Funding

To make a film you need some kind of funding. You can get opportunities of funding from various places, wheather you take out a loan from a bank, get a government grant or you can get money of your family .. thats if you came from a rich family. A government grant is when the government give money to encourage creativity and develope new talent.
What makes a film successful is a Film Distributor, films would not be successful without film distributors. A film distributor is someone who takes your film and shows it to the public, the person would put it on magazines, bilboards, posters, T.V adverts etc.. I would find a distributor by searching them on the internet or going to a Film Festival and then I would get in contact with them and find out who would I feel is more confident in to distribute my film.

I showed this presentation to my media class and in return I received some feedback. I have gained some infomation to add to my prezi presentation, things such as how my film would apply to my target audience. Also I should add what types of camera shots I may use. I will use various types of camera shots, however I will mostly use close ups to show the facial features of the characters and long shot to show the audience the surroundings.

My class have said how I might make the little girl (the undead soul)  look scary. I responded by saying that I would make sure the person who is playing the character has long dark hair, and pale white skin. Also for effect I would make her wear ripped clothing and have little scars on her.

Opening of a Horror Film

In an opening scene of a horror film I expect to see flashbacks, or beginning of a story line that gradually turns into violence, however soemtimes a horror film can straight of start with violence. Also it may start with a scary sound or audio to set the mood or atmosphere.
This movie One Missed Call is a perfect example of the sound or audio being the main point of the movie. It sets the atmosphere right from the beginning of the movie and carries it on right to the end.

Another thing I expect is death. Most horror films have death in them, many people find death the biggest fear in them so many directors mainly use death, ghosts or something to do with death in thier movie.

In this film Jeepers Creepers there is death and violence which is highly expected in horror films. Also what makes a film more scary is the scary faces that the 'villan' or 'bad guy' has. For example in this film the bad guy had a rotten face which looks un human, makes the viewer feel that what they are watching is surreal.

I think the camera shots in an opening horror film scene would be a lot of long shots or close ups depending on what the cenimatographer wants to show. I think there will be alot of editing done to make the film look more scary such as add effects that make you feel more scared when you watch the film.

My Prelim Task

This is my prelim task: The Job Interview

In this task I have learnt many things, one of them being on how to improve my camera skills by using a camera stand to make the shot seem less shaky.

I have also learnt a lot in film editing on the Premiere Pro program. I have mostly experimented with the audio and effects of the program. Adding music or removing audio has been useful for me to use in this prelim task.
Also I have learnt how to add text such as credits and titles to improve my film making skills and make it look more professional.

Green Screen

This is our movie that we made using Green Screen. I have found using green screen very enjoyable and creative. It is quick and easy to use and can be very useful in my horror movie. I have learnt that you have to use a screen that is 1 block colour that does not blend in with our clothes, it does not have to be green but the colour is more used because it is unlikely that someone would wear florescent clothing.

I may consider using green screen in my project to make something more scary in the movie or more realistic.

Film Survey Analysis

After posting my Survey I have found out that teenagers mostly watch horror movies, to get the feeling of excitement or the feeling adrenaline rush through their body when they get scared. I have also found out it would be rare to find a person over the age of 30 watching a horror movie.
According to my survey people are mostly scared of insects such as spiders, or their most feared is 'Death'.  Many people watch horror movies with friends or family members but very rarely on their own because it is more fun to watch horror with someone else.

From the findings of the survey, I have decided that when I film my movie, it would be suited to an audience of mostly teens and over. I would also add things such as death or spiders to scare people, because that is what people are scared of mostly .

Filming & Editing

Filiming something may look easy, but as I found out its not as easy as it looks. I learnt how to use many different shooting angles using the camera, such as the 'over the shoulder shot'. I also learnt that there is no limit on how much video clips you take, because then it is easier when it comes to editing.

Editing a video clip takes a lot of time and patients. You can do many things with editing such as changing the colour of the clip, making it faster or slower or even changing the sound of the audio. I have learnt that you can add effects onto the clip such as adding a mirror line to add an illusion or making the clip blury. You can also change the audio of the clip or even adding music or sound to make your clip more dramatic.
Overall, editing takes alot of time and is quite challenging for you to make the film perfect and have no faults, however it is enjoyable making the film come out the way you want it to.

All About Me

My name is Ruksana. Introductions are not my best, I am very terrible at talking in front of crowds or huge amounts of people .. I would say I am shy but also very sociable :)

My passion is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), which is a martial art that deals with Kick boxing, Karate, Tai chi and Choi kwang Do. This is what I do with most of my time after school or on the weekends. I am currently on Black Belt Gold Tag, in the future i would like to work towards going into competitions to win Medals or Trophies.

In my free time I love to watch Disney Channel, my favourite ones to watch is Wizards Of Waverly Place and Sonny with a Chance because they always make me laugh.

I also enjoy many comedy T.V series such as My wife and kids and Fresh Prince of belair. Overall, I love to watch anything that makes me laugh.

For films. I love to watch Disney Movies, like the classics such as Cinderella, Aladdin or The Lion King. Basically anything Disney I will watch because I'm a HUGE fan of their movies.

I also like to watch action comedy's such as Fast and Furious, I enjoy watching it because of the awesome car's that's in the movie.

I enjoy listening to all types of music such as Hip Hop and R&B. My favourite song at the moment is by Drake - Trust Issues. I am a fan of Jessie J because I find her voice amazing and the songs that she sings inspirational, also her style is portrayed different to the other artists.

I am also obsessed with the song Skyscraper by Demi Lavato because I just love the way her voice sounds and the lyrics are really deep and meaningful.

Video Games

I also like to play video games on Nintendo or PlayStation 3. I mostly like play on my PSP, at the moment I am playing the game Need for Speed. I enjoy this game because I love the cool car's and excitement when racing against other car's. I also love to play Crash Dash on PS2 because i enjoy completing all the levels and its a good pass time when your bored.
